We were fortunate on our first day in Bilbao, Spain to be witness to their annual Day of the Dance. Dance troupes of all ages and from all places around the region come to join a parade and show off their traditional dances. Colorful costumes, maypoles, coffins, swords, sticks, berets, and hoops. Pipes and drums were the only musical accompaniment. Once a boys only event, girls have been allowed for the last several of years.
When asked if this were in fact some sort of a contest with prizes, we were told by our city tour guide Anna that it was all just for fun. And folks were having plenty of fun. Tap on one of the photos for a gallery of really, really cute folks.
